Performance Assessment of Critical Thinking: Conceptualization, Design, and Implementation

Enhancing students’ critical thinking (CT) skills is an essential goal of higher education. This article presents a systematic approach to conceptualizing and measuring CT. CT generally comprises the following mental processes: identifying, evaluating, and analyzing a problem; interpreting information; synthesizing evidence; and reporting a conclusion. We further posit that CT also involves dealing with dilemmas involving ambiguity or conflicts among principles and contradictory information. We argue that performance assessment provides the most realistic—and most credible—approach to measuring CT. Abstract Research-based discussions about 21st-century skills are currently needed; 21st-century skills refer to skills that today's students are expected to possess for successful future careers. The ways students perceive these skills or what kind of dispositions they have in this regard are significant. This paper provides an overview of the development of pre-service teachers' perceived 21st-century skills and dispositions. Sākoties jaunajam mācību gadam, pakāpeniska jaunā mācību satura ieviešana ir kļuvusi par vienu no svarīgākajām sarunu tēmām skolās. Projekta Skola2030 mērķis bija attīstīt skolēniem vairākas svarīgas 21. gadsimta prasmes, kā arī koncentrēt uzmanību uz mācību priekšmetu padziļinātu izpratni un padziļināti izprast mācību vielu nevis sadrumstaloti. 2020./2021. mācību gadu skolēni pavadīja attālināti, un tas sagādāja grūtības attīstīt rakstīšanas prasmes angļu valodas mācību stundās. Finnish pre-service teachers’ perceptions of their strategic learning skills and collaboration dispositions

To support the development of pupils’ 21st-century skills, teachers themselves must also be competent in these skills and learn them during pre-service teacher education. The aim of this study is to investigate what kind of profiles emerge among Finnish first-year pre-service teachers’ (N = 872) in terms of perceptions of their strategic learning skills and collaboration dispositions and what background variables explain membership of the profiles found.
